Mauzam Khan was arrested on Wednesday from Gujarat. His accomplice, identified as Irshad, was arrested for being part of the crime. The Kandivli police said Khan, who earns his livelihood doing petty chores, entered the victim’s room in Ganesh Nagar around 11am on Saturday while her parents were out, while Irshad locked the door.

“Khan found the door to the girl’s house ajar and entered the room. His accomplice Irshad latched the door from outside and stood guard as Khan raped her in the room. After a few minutes, Irshad opened the door and the duo fled,” said Hareshwar Pimple, senior inspector, Kandivli police.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Khan had attempted to rape the girl once before but she did not inform anyone about it.

On Saturday, locals saw the duo fleeing and asked the girl what happened. They then took her to the police station immediately, sources at Kandivli police station said.
