A 19-year-old woman was raped by three men at knifepoint in Bhiwandi while she was on her way back from work a fortnight ago.

The survivor was accosted by three tempo drivers Jitendra Yadav, 28, Surendra Yadav, 25, and Satendra Yadav on Pipeline Road late in the evening.

The trio, who are brothers, threatened her with a knife and took her to Anjurphata in a tempo where they raped her.

Before letting her go, the accused threatened to kill her father and sister if she complained about them.

The incident came to light on Sunday evening after she started to complain of severe pain in the abdomen.

She then told her family what had happened, after which they approached the Narpoli police to lodge a complaint.

Following this, the police arrested Jitendra and Surendra, while Satendra is absconding.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Satendra had also raped the woman one-and-a-half months ago.

However, she had not told anyone about the incident.

The two arrested accused were produced at the Bhiwandi court on Monday and have been remanded in police custody for seven days.

The Narpoli police have registered a case under section 376(g), 366, 120 (b) and 101 of the Indian Penal Code.

“The woman’s medical tests will be carried out soon. We are also on the lookout for the third accused. Further investigation is under way,” said Sanjay Satav, investigation officer, Narpoli.
