In two separate incidents, two young girls who were left unattended were raped in the city.

A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was kidnapped from outside her house at Laljipada in Kandivli (West), raped and abandoned in Malwani in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident took place when the child was playing outside the house around 11.30pm. At the time, her father, an auto driver, was at work and her mother, three siblings and three uncles were eating dinner. When her mother could not find her 15 minutes later, she called up her husband. After searching the area, the couple filed a police complaint.

On issuing wireless messages, the police learnt that a girl had been found in Malwani, and she was identified by her father. “She was petrified. She would not let anyone touch her. Her medical report confirms rape,” said Vijaylaxmi Hirewat, inspector, Kandivli police station.

The police rounded up 27 persons and detained her uncles, but have made no arrests.

In the second incident, a 22-year-old man, Aditya Ruke, was arrested on Monday by the Kurar police for allegedly raping a seven-year-old neighbour.

While the incident took place on May 1, the complaint was filed on Monday. The police said the accused barged in when the child was alone at home; her father had gone to Pune and her mother had gone to wash clothes at a public tap in the vicinity.
