Another man fractured his leg after falling in the same train.

According to the Dadar Government Railway Police (GRP), the two injured are unconscious and have been getting treatment at Sion Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Satish Merawala, 16, a Dharavi resident, and Kedar Yadav, 25, a Sion Koliwada resident. The injured are Zia Ansari, 26, a Mumbra resident and Uday Sharma, 31, a Kalyan resident.

The police said Merawala was on his way to Parel to appear for an examination. With little space to stand in the packed compartment, he, Yadav and Ansari fell off the train one after the other. Sharma was found a few meters away from them.

Nitin Bobade, inspector of Dadar GRP said, “Prima facie, the incident took place due to overcrowding. Merawala, Kedar, Ansari and Sharma fell of the train near Dharavi dhobi ghat, following which locals spotted them and informed the GRP.”

The fifth victim, KR Yadav, 26, fell inside the train and sustained a fracture on his right leg, the police said.

A Central Railway spokesperson confirmed that the incident took place due to overcrowding. “Of the four passengers who fell off, one reportedly fell on his knees and arms. The others fell about 25 to 35m away from the spot. Apart from extreme overcrowding, there is no other apparent cause of this accident.”
