A 29-year-old man tried to burn a 23-year-old homemaker, whom he had been stalking for the past four months, at Sainath chawl in Kandivli (East) on Tuesday morning. Sachin Shigwan, the police said, would regularly call Shraddha Langde and harass her.

On Tuesday morning, Shraddha was watching TV at her neighbour Minal Zamin's home along with Shabana Shaikh when Sachin entered the house holding an insecticide and cigarette lighter. He sprayed the insecticide at Shraddha and lit it to burn her. Minal, who tried to save Shraddha, also sustained burns on her hands and face.

"He was like a possessed man. He kept saying 'I won't leave you' as he charged towards me and set me on fire," Shraddha told the police. The police arrested Sachin near his home in the chawl a few hours later and have booked him for attempt to murder.
