The victim’s mother knew the accused, 25-year-old Mohammad Israil Ansari. The accused took the girl to the theatre for the evening show of a movie where she was victimized.

“The incident took place at around 7pm inside the theatre,” said a police officer from Kurla police station.

The girl was crying for a long time after which viewers contacted an attendant. The attendant spotted the child who was undressed while Ansari was indulging in obscene acts with her. When an alarm was raised, the accused tried to flee the theatre in a semi-nude condition.

Ansari was roughed up by the public and later handed over to the police.

The victim's mother was shocked when she was informed about the incident. She said that the child had been left in Ansari's custody in the past. The victim was sent for a medical examination, the reports of which are awaited, police said.

Ansari sells toys in Mahim and a case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
