A 41-year-old HR professional was recently arrested for allegedly sending obscene text messages to a woman, 44, who he had met at a corporate event.

The Bhandup police said that the accused, Dombivli resident Shankar Raut, had allegedly sent the obscene texts to the woman from December 17 to December 25, using a false identity.

The police arrested Raut after the woman lodged a complaint on December 25.

Police said that the two had met around six months ago, during a corporate get-together. The accused took the woman’s number and the two had interacted regarding business.

“However, using a fake identity, he later started harassing her. The victim was unaware of who was sending her the messages, until we caught him,” said S Nadgauda, senior police inspector, Bhandup police station adding that Raut was released on bail.

Raut was booked under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
