A 56-year-old woman was found with her throat slit outside her seventh floor flat in Andheri (West) on Wednesday. The woman's husband, who had gone out to buy medicines for her, found her lying dead near the lift when he returned.
The safety door of the flat was locked while 5.5 tolas of gold jewellery that she was wearing - a chain, a pair of earrings, a ring and a bangle - collectively worth Rs. 1.7 lakh was missing.
The police said robbery seemed to be the motive behind the murder. Four men have been detained on suspicion, including a garbage collector of the building and the society's watchman.
In Kandivli (West), on Tuesday night, a 49-year-old man was stabbed 27 times in the middle of a street while a 23-year-old man who was with him sustained injuries. The police solved the case within 12 hours with the arrest of two persons from Nashik on Wednesday.
The Kandivli police said Kapurchand Gupta was a functionary of the All India Trade Union Congress and also a secretary of the Hawker's Union. The accused had murdered him as he was an "obstruction" in the former's money-lending business.
