An 85-year-old man, on his way to the local mosque to offer morning prayers, was run over by a vehicle around 4.45am on Sunday. The hit-and-run incident took place on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road. The deceased, Mohammad Latif Batullah Idris, was walking towards the mosque when an
unknown vehicle hit him. The driver did not stop and instead fled.

The police have not been able to find any eyewitness to this mishap. Assistant police inspector Sandeep More from Deonar police station said, “Idris had three sons and he was living with his youngest son Mohammad Khalid (37) in Govandi.”

Idris was rushed to the Rajawadi hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The Deonar police have registered a case of causing death due to negligence against the unidentified driver.

On Thursday, three people were killed in accidents in Bandra, Borivli and Marine Drive. In the Marine Drive accident, a college student on a bike hit a pedestrian who died on the spot.
