In another incident of a minor being victimised in the city, a nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Thursday morning in Ghatkopar (West) by a 19-year-old youngster.
According to the Ghatkopar police, the accused, Jafar Nathu Ahmed Shaikh, is a resident of Allahabad and had come to the city a fortnight ago in search of a job.
He was staying with his sister in Bandra. Three days before the incident, Shaikh shifted to his friend’s house, along with three others, in a Ghatkopar chawl.
“On Thursday morning, the girl was playing outside and went to the place where Shaikh was sleeping,” said Ram Mandurke, senior inspector, Ghatkopar police.
Shaikh was alone in the room as the others had left for work. Investigations revealed that the girl was going to the bathroom when Shaikh allegedly raped her.
The incident came to light when the girl went home and started bleeding from her private parts.
“The girl took her mother to the place where she was raped and also pointed Shaikh out. The family approached us, following which, we arrested him,” said another police officer.
The girl is recuperating at KEM hospital. Police investigations revealed that Shaikh immediately washed his clothes after committing the crime.
He has been booked under sections 3, 4, 5 (m) and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 along with sections 376 (rape) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
