Kumud Ranjan Tiwari, 29, who is a Bachelor in Technology, was known to be one of the main dummies appearing fraudulently for aspirants and who had ‘a high success rate’.

This brings the total arrests in the case to 9.

The cyber police station had busted the admission racket earlier this year and arrested eight persons.

The racket operating across the country, had several teachers and owners of coaching classes, who would take around Rs. 15 -20 lakh from aspirants wanting admissions at NMIMS.

The accused would make professors and bright students appear in place of the aspirants who would clear the entrance exam.

An officer requesting anonymity said that Tiwari, who was arrested from Himachal Pradesh, was known to be ‘very intelligent’ and had helped 45 students pass in three years.

“Dummies don’t clear exams every time. Tiwari was known to clear on most occasions,” the officer said.

He was paid Rs1 lakh a sitting.

The officer said Tiwari was linked to Vikas Bansal, 35, the mastermind of the racket who was arrested earlier this month.

The police are hoping to get some more information about the racket by interrogating Tiwari who has been remanded in police custody.
