Ten lakh island city consumers will pay more over the next three years for power supply because the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has allowed the BEST undertaking to recover transport losses of Rs. 1,187.71 crore suffered between 2004-05 and 2008-09.

This is in addition to the regular tariff revision to be done any time soon. BEST is already recovering transport losses for 2009-10. BEST has not assessed the financial impact on consumers as it could vary according to individual consumption.
