The team of eight policemen were pelted with stones by villagers and family members of the accused when making the arrests.

The three minor girls were found at CST on April 18. They told the police they had been pushed into prostitution and gang-raped. Officials said they managed to escape from a pimp while being taken in a local train.

The GRP team initially caught two of the traffickers from Diva. From April 23 onwards, a police team camped at the Bangaon Village in 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, to catch the others.

“We finally found them at 1.30am on Saturday. When we nabbed them, their family members and villagers pelted stones at our vehicles,” said a GRP officer. After getting a transit remand from a local court, the GRP brought them to Mumbai, where they are being interrogated.

A preliminary probe has revealed the trio would charge Rs20,000 as commission per girl from Bangladeshi traffickers to smuggle them into India.

The police said the three accused are around 40, 26 and 19 years old. Five persons have now been arrested in the case.
