Post-April, commuters may have to shell out more to travel by BEST buses. In November, the BEST had approved an increase of Re 1 for ordinary buses and Rs. 5 for A/C buses, with effect from April 1, 2013.

However, there are chances of a fare revision again.

Om Prakash Gupta, general manager, BEST, said there could be an increase in fares because of the frequent fuel price hikes.

“BEST is facing losses because of the rise in diesel and CNG prices. We are demanding that the state government work out a subsidy mechanism for public transport system,” he said.

The fare hike amount has not been specified.
