The recent spate of crime against women has prompted the police to take extra precautions during this year’s New Year celebrations.

There will be strong police presence in plainclothes at crowded areas and special squads will be posted at various spots to ensure that women are not harassed or assaulted.

All senior officials, including the police commissioner, will be on field monitoring the situation, staff at local police stations will patrol their localities. The police will also use the existing CCTV network to keep a watch.

The traffic police too will barricade major roads, conduct nakabandis and keep a check on drink driving.

“The bandobast could be increased,” said a police official.
