The Mumbai police crime branch is likely to file the chargesheet in the T20 betting scandal by next week.

Investigating officers, who were waiting to arrest two wanted bookies Pawan and Sanjay Jaipur before filing the chargesheet, have now decided to not delay the process any further. Instead, they will show the Jaipur brothers as wanted accused in the document.

"The anticipatory bail application of the Jaipur brothers is currently in the Bombay high court and may take some time before a decision is taken. Hence we decided to go ahead and file the chargesheet," said an officer investigating the case, on the condition of anonymity.

He added, "Once they are arrested and we are done interrogating them, we will file a supplementary chargesheet." The officer said that the hearing in the anticipatory bail application had been completed and the HC would soon pronounce the judgment.

The officer said that even if the application was rejected, the accused could approach the Supreme Court. "Hence, rather had delaying the chargesheet, we decided to submit it now," he said.

Further, the chargesheet is expected to run into more than 6,000 pages. Although the Delhi police has already filed a chargesheet in the spot-fixing scandal, which was more than 6,000 pages, the Mumbai crime branch's case will be limited to gambling, with sections of forgery and cheating.

"Unlike the Delhi police's chargesheet, we will neither mention any links to the underworld, nor to spot-fixing," the officer said.
