Roshan and Beena Shetty, the parents of 3-year-old Priyal, can't stop beaming. A day after Hindustan Times carried a report on how Priyal's family had no money for her surgery – she has a hole in her heart – help has poured in. The family now has the Rs 2.5 lakh it needs for Priyal's
surgery on September 9.  Beena said she and Roshan were surprised and delighted when they received calls from social workers, the general public and non-resident Indians all Wednesday.

“The calls started coming in from 7.30 am. I never dreamed we would get such a huge response,” said Beena, a resident of D'Souzawadi, Thane.

Among those who called was a woman from Bandra whose son had called her from the US and asked her to write out a cheque for Rs 10,000 for Priyal.

Priyal was to be admitted to P D Hinduja Hospital in Mahim for the surgery on Monday. But, because the Shettys did not have the money, they were forced to postpone the surgery by 10 days.
