The Malwani police, on Wednesday, arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl.

The victim filed a complaint with the police, in which she alleged that around 9.30pm on Monday, when she was on her way to her cousin’s house, the accused, Wasim Shaikh, a tempo driver, pulled her inside his house.

When she shouted for help, Shaikh’s father, Ishaq, 45, told passers-by to go away saying it was an internal matter.

“The victim said Ishaq locked the house from outside and left. Shaikh, a history-sheeter, then raped and beat her up,” said Nilesh Kamble, sub inspector, Malwani police station.

The victim said she only came out when Ishaq unlocked the door at 9pm on Tuesday.

The Malwani police have registered a case of rape, causing hurt and wrongful confinement against Shaikh and Ishaq.

Abdul Rauf Shaikh, senior inspector, Malwani police, said, “We have arrested the accused based on the victim’s complaint. We have sent the victim and the accused for medical tests.”

The police also said the victim and accused knew each other.

Shaikh and Ishaq were produced before a local court that remanded them in police custody till March 5.
