Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Congress for its anti-Narendra Modi letter controversy and also condemned noted economist Amartya Sen for his anti-Modi remarks.

In his editorial piece in Saamna, the mouthpiece of his party, Thackeray taunted the Congress for stooping so low to counter Modi.

“They may have political differences but it is wrong to drag America in this. They have only created a scene,” said Uddhav. He demanded a full pledged inquiry over the controversy.

A letter was dispatched to American President Barack Obama not to issue visa to Modi which was said to be signed by 65 MPs. However many like Sitaram Yechury, Tariq Anwar and Achutan denied signing any such letter.

Saamna editorial's are considered as party chief's views. After his father's death, Uddhav himself has taken over as Saamna editor while executive editor Sanjay Raut continues in his post.

Thackeray also took on America saying that when it grants Visa to Kashmiri separatists and also Pakistani politicians who support terrorism, it was wrong to deny Modi Visa who is an elected leader.

Noted economist Amartya Sen also came under criticism for his remark that he did not support Modi as Prime Minister.

“The economy is in mess and inflation has gone up with price rise at its peak and this is not Modi’s doing. Sen has no cure for this at all,” he added.

Uddhav however acknowledged that there is no doubt of Sen’s brilliance and the demand made to return the Bharat Ratna award was wrong."Sen should first focus on his work instead of poking nose in politics,” said Uddhav.
