Former bureaucrat-turned-activist Avinash Dharmadhikari quit the Shiv Sena on Monday.

Dharmadhikari joined the Sena on March 14, 2009, just ahead of the general elections. However, with no greater role to play, he remained inactive in the part.

“Today’s politics is so corrupt that to change it while working within a political party is not possible,” said Dharmadhikari.

Dharmadhikari shot to fame in 1995-96 over his differences with the then Shiv Sena-BJP government when he was secretary to chief minister. In March 1996, he resigned from the Indian Administrative Service.

The ex-bureaucrat unsuccessfully contested elections twice — in 1998 and 1999 — as an independent candidate.
Dharmadhikari said his future plans include focusing on the education sector.
