The Fire Brigade will acquire three command centre vehicles, which will have all modern equipment to ensure quick communication. The department has only one such vehicle, which was purchased in the 1970s. The civic body will buy Volvo buses and modify them into command centres.
These vehicles will be in line with the central government's recent emission standards Bharat Stage IV.

Each of these vehicles will be equipped with a conference room, thermal imaging apparatus, projectors, computers, a toilet and a small pantry.

"Each centre will need at least three people to operate," Joint Municipal Commissioner S. S Shinde said.

"Whenever there is a major accident these vehicles will help pass information from the site to the main control room. If reinforcement of additional water is required, this centre will inform the control room," Shinde said.

He added that the vehicle the department is using is based on wireless technology, which is outdated.
