For the Shiv Sena, the Mumbai civic body is nothing but a hen that lays golden eggs, said Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray in an interview with HT, a week before Mumbai witnesses a triangular contest in the civic polls between the Sena-BJP alliance, the Congress-NCP combine and the
MNS.

Thackeray blames the Sena, the main ruling party in the civic body, for failing to provide even basic amenities to Mumbaiites. "What has it done for the city after being in power for the past 17 years?"

The Sena does not have the will to do anything good and chooses to blame others for its ineffective governance, he alleged. "On an average, Mumbaiites pay Rs. 38 crore in taxes to the BMC every day. What do they get in return? Potholes, bad water, garbage on roads and encroachments."

The party has had "Rs 40,000 crore in five years to spend on the city," Thackeray said. "Whe-re has this money gone? Can any Mumbaiite see any work done with Rs. 40,000 crore?"
