The pistol Asha Bhosle's daughter Varsha used to kill herself belongs to the singer, Gamdevi police said on Wednesday.
The 0.6 mm Belgian pistol will now be sent to the forensic lab to find out how it was in working condition even though it was not used for so many years. The police are also investigating how Varsha got the weapon.
After Varsha was found dead with a gunshot on her right temple on Monday, the police recorded the statement of her mother Asha Bhosle. The officials said she told the police that it was the same gun that went missing at least 30 years ago. When she told them about the misplaced gun, the police revoked her licence.
A top official said, “We are surprised the gun was still in working condition and hence will conduct a forensic test on the weapon to find out how it is still in working condition if it is that old. We are going through the paperwork for the gun.”
The officials also stated that they would take a legal opinion to check if the former owner of the gun can be booked for negligence. The officials are in the process of registering the statement of other family members.
Police are also probing into how the pistol came in Varsha's possession after it was lost 30 years ago.
