Vehicular traffic from Churchgate to Girgaum on Marine Drive will be closed until Sunday evening due to a massive burst in a 32-inch water pipeline located underneath Dr NA Purandare Road that caused the cave-in of a 10-ft long portion of the road.

The burst occurred around 4.55am on Saturday. Repair and replacement work of the damaged portion of the pipeline went on till 8pm. The relaying of the damaged stretch is expected to be completed by 5pm on Sunday.

“We have closed the north-bound lane from Air India junction to Girgaum Chowpatty and have diverted the traffic to Maharshi Karve Road via Aayakar Bhavan and Opera House,” said NB Patil, inspector, Tardeo traffic outpost.
