Students appearing for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in February next year will be required to fill their exam registration forms online from now.

The deadline for completing the application process is November.

The online process will also become applicable to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) candidates from the academic year starting in 2014.

This is one of the many steps that have been taken by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education towards a ‘paper-free’ board. While the board is also contemplating issuing hall tickets online, a final decision is yet to be taken.

“It will be convenient for students to fill the forms online and processing them will also become faster,” Laxmikant Pandey, chairperson of Mumbai division, which includes Thane and Raigad, told Hindustan Times.

So far, students had to fill the forms manually. Schools would make students practice on photocopies of the form, so that they did not make mistakes on the original one.

This year, however, students will have to fill the forms online from the school or junior college itself. Teachers will be trained in filling the online form between October 14 and 19 (tentative dates).“We request students to start filling forms from the first day itself, so that the last-minute rush is avoided,” said Pandey.

Schools or colleges that do not have access to the Internet, will be given a CD to install the software for filling the form. Once the process is complete, schools will have to submit the CD to the divisional board office in Navi Mumbai.

Students appearing as pri vate candidates will have to fill Form 17 online, for which some schools and junior colleges will be assigned as centres.

However, students will not have to pay their registration fees online and they will be collected manually by the respective school or junior colleges.
