Class 9 student Aditi Dikshit, 13, knew she wanted to study science, but was only aware of the traditional BSc course options. After attending HT’s free career counselling seminar in Nerul on Saturday, Dikshit realised her interests and aptitude pointed to the sub-field of biotechnology, and she is now considering a career in it.

Dikshit was among 200 students who attended Saturday’s Campus Calling workshop, the second in a series of 12 sessions organised as part of the ongoing Hindustan Times admissions campaign. In each session, a team of career counsellors from Disha Counselling Centre and RN Podar School help clarify the doubts of students and parents through presentations and one-on-one interactions.

“I was unable to decide whether to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer applications [BCA] or management studies [BMS] after Class 12. After talking to the counsellors, I have decided that BMS suits my profile better,” said Yajur Bawa, 17, a Class 12 student from DAV Public School, Nerul.

Counsellors also shed light on the career options in arts, science and commerce streams, and highlighted aspects of some of the revised entrance exams, including the engineering JEE and the medical NEET. They dedicated part of the session to explaining the online admission process for junior colleges.

“The seminar gave us information about the admissions process for each kind of course, including the entrance exam needed, the skills required and the factors considered,” said Tanya Badve, a Class 10 student of SBOA School, Nerul.
