Realty major Indiabulls Real Estate Pvt Ltd has been served a notice to stop work on its commercial and residential project at Elphinstone Mills in Lower Parel by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).

The MPCB said construction of the Indiabulls Finance Centre had been started in violation of the “consent to establish” (approval granted by the board) and without the requisite environmental clearance.

Indiabulls disputed this, saying no construction was under way at the site as environmental clearance was awaited for its residential project.

Vipul Bansal, CEO of Indiabulls Real Estate Pvt Ltd, said: “We have received a stop work notice pertaining to the residential project at our plot no 612 and 613 of TPS Mahim from the MPCB today. There is no work happening on the site for the last few months as we are awaiting the environmental clearance. We have constructed only up to the plinth level after receiving the commencement certificate. The fact that no construction has happened beyond plinth can be verified on the site.’’

The MPCB notice (a copy of which is with HT) signed by its member-secretary Radheshyam Mopalwar was issued on Friday under the Water Pollution Act, 1974, and the Air Pollution Act, 1981.
