Worried about the rising cases of property crimes and crimes against women in Kalyan-Dombivli, the police have told the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation to install CCTV cameras at 200 spots in the area.

Ramnath Sonawane, commissioner, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, said, "Protecting life and property of citizens is one of the responsibilities of the municipal corporation under the BPMC Act. So, when a few days ago, the police department came to us with the proposal to install CCTV cameras, we started work on it."

Sonawane said, "The police suggested more than 200 spots for these cameras, which include markets, parking spots, schools and colleges, parks and gardens and busy streets. We will present the proposal at the general board meeting of the civic body and a budgetary provision will be made for this for the next financial year. It will cost around Rs. 2 crore."

"The KDMC is willing to consider proposals by private builders or companies," said Sonawane. CCTVs have already been installed at Kalyan railway station.
