The Goregaon police are finding it difficult to question Mukesh Sharma alias Kabir, who was arrested after he shot the 71-year-old businessman on Saturday. The police also said that there was an accomplice of Kabir who was keeping watch outside the cake shop while he shot Pujari at point blank range.

“Kabir is a hardened criminal and a sharp shooter. He is not cooperating and is giving us a hard time,” said Surendra Paithankar, senior police inspector. The police are also suspecting property dispute to be the motive behind the murder. Angara had two wives who are living separately. Two of his four sons were history sheeters. One of his four sons, from the first wife, Harish was affiliated with the Amar Naik gang and had been killed in an encounter at Malabar Hill. “His other son Mayur is an alcoholic and has 13 cases of theft and assault registered against him. He fought with his father several times and had also threatened to kill him after Angara refused to give him anything from his property. We have called Mayur for questioning but he has not come yet,” added Paithankar.

Mayur, who had been externed, did not attend his father’s funeral on Sunday, said the police. Mayur had met his father near a temple at Wageshwari where he asked him for money. Angara refused to give any money but his friend, Kamlesh Shetty, handed over Rs. 300 to Mayur.

Angara had got an extortion call from the Hemant Pujari gang demanding Rs. 50 lakh about a-year-and-a-half ago. He had reported the matter to the Anti-Extortion Cell and three persons were arrested in connection. Since then, Angara had never received any extortion call, Paithankar said.
