MNS corporator Nitin Nikam who slapped a senior citizen and a civic body contractor on camera for delay in water pipeline repair work was arrested and released on bail today.

The incident hasn't gone down well with the MNS chief Raj Thackeray, as he is reportedly upset over the incident.

"We can't tolerate a senior citizen being slapped. Raj Thackeray was upset seeing the visuals," said Akhilesh Chaubey, General Secretary (Legal), MNS.

65-year-old DG Patil, a private contractor with Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) had taken up a contract for repairing a water pipeline in Kalyan (East).

Nikam reportedly summoned Patil following complaints about delays in the repair work in Kalyan's Ganeshwadi locality that caused water scarcity. During the conversation Nikam started slapping Patil.

"There's no water supply in Kalyan-East for the past four days, and the officials and the contractors were passing the buck between themselves. They do not understand decent words the message was delivered in our style, and we hope to have water tomorrow," Nikam said.

Nikam was charged under Section 341 of the Indian Penal Code for wrongful restraint. The charge carries a punishment of one month jail term or Rs. 500 fine.
