The state government, on Wednesday, moved the resolution for the revocation, citing the recommendation by a panel constituted to look into the incident.

Ram Kadam (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena), Kshitij Thakur (Bahujan Vikas Aghadi), Jaikumar Rawal (BJP), Pradeep Jaiswal (independent) and Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena) were suspended immediately after the attack, which had led to outrage across the state.

Speaker of the state Assembly had condemned the attack and tendered an apology to the people of Maharashtra for an unwarranted attack inside the premises of the state legislature.

Suspended till December 31, the MLAs were banned from entering the premises of the legislature in Mumbai and Nagpur.

During the course of investigation, the Mumbai police had filed a charge sheet against Kadam and Thakur.

The Opposition had demanded revocation of the suspension, as the MLAs were facing police probe and could not be held guilty twice for the same crime.

The state Assembly had appointed an eight-member committee, headed by senior MLA Ganpatrao Deshmukh, to look into the attack on the police officer.

The panel had submitted its report in the last week of the budget session and recommended revocation of the suspension and framing of code of conduct for the members.

The resolution, moved by parliamentary affairs minister Harshavardhan Patil, was passed by majority. The Opposition also demanded that the suspension of Omraje Nimbalkar (Shiv Sena), for the mess in handling the water scarcity in Osmanabad, be revoked.

The case against the MLAs, however, will continue in the court.
