Commuters on Central Railway (CR) had a harrowing time on Sunday, owing to mega blocks on both the main and Harbour lines. Trains were around 15-20 minutes behind schedule.

As CR authorities failed to complete the work in the scheduled four hours, trains on the Harbour line were extremely crowded.

Railway department sources said there was a problem with the electric equipment in the tower wagon, owing to which the restoration of the overhead wire was delayed by half an hour.

In addition to the mega block, there were also a few traffic blocks between Vashi-Aasangoan and Kasara, which led to a few suburban locals being cancelled.

The CR spokesperson said the mega block on the main line ended in time, but that on the Harbour line stretched on for half an hour more.

YS Wagh, a resident of Govandi said, “There was a huge rush on the Harbour line platforms around 3.30pm.”

BEST plied a few extra buses on routes such as the Kurla-Vashi route, but it was not sufficient, said commuters.

“We waited for 25 minutes at the Kanjurmarg railway station for a Dadar-bound train,” said DN Aanande, Kanjurmarg resident. “When the train finally arrived, there was no place to step inside,” he added.
