A young working Mumbaiite on an average spends one-and-a-half hours travelling between home and work place. The commute, long working hours and fewer holidays are some of the reasons why almost seven in 10 Mumbaiites do not follow a fitness regime.
These findings are part of a survey of 1,004 employees of 560 companies conducted by Young Bombay Forum, the youth wing of Bombay Cham-ber of Commerce & Industry and IMRB International. Respondents were between the age of 21 and 35 years and from companies such as Godrej, Pepsico, Vodafone, Ranbaxy and Shopper’s Shop.
“The primary objective of the survey was to understand what the working youth thought about life at work and beyond it,” said Ameya Sawant of IMRB International. While six out of 10 respondents were not ‘extremely satisfied’ with their jobs, many found solace in the company of colleagues. Nine out of 10 respondents had a ‘best friend’ at work and 84% had a mentor in their office.
“We make sure that employees have access to good recreational activities,” said Shalini Kamath, MD, corporate communications and human resources at Ambit.
