A 36-year-old salesman was arrested on Monday after a 26-year-old British national alleged that he molested her.

The incident allegedly took place at Oshiwara, just a few metres from the police station.

The police said the victim has been in the city for the past year on a tourist visa and works as an extra in Bollywood movies.

The police said the incident occurred on Monday around 7.20pm, when the woman and her two friends left from a restaurant at Oshiwara. “They were waiting for an auto outside the restaurant when the man, Gaurav Gupta, allegedly approached the woman and touched her inappropriately and then feld,” said an official from the Oshiwara police.

Some people in the area started chasing the accused. On seeing the chaos, beat constables who were part of an anti-chain snatching squad on duty near Mega Mall in the vicinity got on to Gupta’s trail and arrested him.

Gupta, a Mira Road resident, was booked for molestation, police said. “He will be produced before a metropolitan court on Tuesday,” said N Pathan, senior inspector, Oshiwara.

Gupta told the police he did not molest the woman and that his hand touched her accidentally.
