The Dr DY Patil Engineering College has set up an internal inquiry committee comprising of senior professors to look into the suicide case of 19-year-old student Nitin Padalkar.
The committee is expected to give its report on the matter in two days time, said ND Patil, vice principal of the college.
The college management has taken note of the incident and started a suo moto enquiry into it. Pradip Paikrao and Gaurav Madhvi, the two accused by Padalkar in his suicide note, for allegedly harassing him in college, have been suspended, Patil said.
SJ Nirmale, of the Railway Police, Kalyan, said that the police had asked the college to conduct the internal inquiry as the law does not allow them to reach out to the students on their own. Only once the committee presents its findings can the police take action.
The police are taking the help of a hand writing expert to confirm whether the suicide note was written by the deceased. They have collected a notebooks belonging to Padalkar to verify his handwriting.
The police have said that the two accused will only be arrested after they discuss the issue with higher officers and after the college presents its inquiry report.
Meanwhile, the student wing of the MNS has written to the railway police asking for a speedy investigation into the case. They have given the cops a week's notice to take action, failing which they will stage an agitation, said Sachin More, president of the student wing.
