A 19-year-old engineering student from Navi Mumbai killed himself on the railway tracks between Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar railway stations on Friday night. The railway police found a suicide note from the pocket of the student, Nitin Padalkar, in which he said that he was being harassed by two of his classmates.
Nitin Padalkar, harassed by classmates, committed suicide on the railway tracks between Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar railway stations, Mumbai.
Inspector SJ Nirmal of the Kalyan Railway GRP said, “On Friday night, the police received information about the body of a young person lying on the railway tracks. Our team rushed to the spot and during a spot panchnama, found identification papers through which we recognised the body to be Padalkar's.”
The police also found a handwritten suicide note in which Padalkar named two classmates who had been torturing him mentally and wrote that they must be punished.
The police inquired with the parents as well as with Padalkar's sister who confirmed that the deceased had been stressed because he was harassed by two of his classmates over the past six months.
Padalkar was a bright student who had secured admission to his college on merit despite financial limitations. His father used to work as a coolie in Kalyan.
Padalkar was studying for the ongoing examinations. On Friday evening, he told his mother he was going to meet a friend, but instead made his way to Kalyan railway station and boarded a local heading towards Ambernath.
His body was found the next day on the tracks between Vithalwadi and Ulhasnagar railway station.
SJ Nirmal, the investigating officer said, “We will now find out who the two people are who used to harass Padalkar. We will go to his college and talk to his classmates. We will also check with the motorman of the train that mowed down the boy if it was an accident or if the boy jumped under it deliberately.”
