The Mulund police have busted an inter-state gang involved in stealing vehicles from the city.

These were then used to smuggle liquor in Gujarat, where alcohol is prohibited.

The police have arrested five people from Gujarat and Rajasthan and have recovered eight stolen vehicles from their possession.

They also suspect some locals of being involved.

Police stated that the gang would initially steal the lock of the boot of the car.

From the stolen lock, they prepared a duplicate key which would be used to open and start the vehicle.

“After the vehicle was stolen from the city, it was taken to Dahisar check naka From here, another driver would drive it to Baroda or Ahmedabad,” said Vasant Tajne assistant commissioner of police, Mulund division.
