The two Palghar girls who were arrested in November for their comments about Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Facebook, are hoping for a fresh start this year.
One of the two girls, Rinu Srinivasan, 20, is all set to release a Tamil song called ‘Facebook mania’ on YouTube in January.
Srinivasan had come up with the idea to record a song about three months ago, much before the controversy in which she and her friend, Shaheen Dhada, were arrested for a Facebook post expressing displeasure at the bandh following Thackeray’s death.
“The song is a humorous one and is not related to the controversy. The lyrics describe how when a girl posts something on Facebook, she gets a lot of attention with many comments and likes. The same is not the case when a boy posts something,” said Srinivasan. “The song will be resung in Hindi. The lyrics are being worked on.”
Srinivasan also has plans to make a music album with friends whom she met on the social networking site. “The album will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. We are currently working on the songs,” she said.
Srinivasan said she would spend time learning music this year. She plans to shift base to Chennai for higher studies for the next two years. “I was supposed to pursue a course in audio engineering from January in Chennai. However it was postponed to July. So till then, I can concentrate on learning music and singing,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dhada also plans to concentrate on higher studies this year. “I want to forget what happened last year. I will concentrate on studies. I plan to pursue a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in human resources,” said Dhada.
After nationwide outrage and protests following their arrests, the girls’ lives are slowly returning to normalcy. “I am waiting for legal procedures to end. I no longer live in fear and can roam around Palghar freely,” said Dhada.
