Even though the deadline for auto and taxi drivers with mechanical meters to get recalibrated e-meters fitted in their vehicles expired on Tuesday, transport authorities have not taken action against vehicles with old meters.

RTO sources said that no drive had been taken against auto rickshaws and taxis with old meters on Wednesday, the first day after the deadline set by the Bombay high court ended.

“RTO offices have taken action against a few taxis and autos, but it was not a full-fledged drive,” said an RTO official.

Another senior RTO official said they have planned to launch a big drive after a few days, because many drivers in the city have been unable to replace their mechanical meters owing
to shortage of e-meters in the market.

Meanwhile, the rush for recalibration continued on Wednesday, sources said.

Taxi union leader AL Quadros said that all taxi meters would be recalibrated in the next three to four days.
