While the draft on the ordinance for a ban on dance bars is ready, it will be issued only after a discussion with all political parties and other departments concerned, home minister RR Patil said on Friday.

The Supreme Court had quashed the government’s decision of banning dance bars, in July this year. Patil said the advocate general had submitted the draft of the ordinance to the home department, which had sought the opinion of the other departments.

“Labour, urban development and women and child welfare departments have their own laws on the functioning of bars and other establishments. Their opinion is important,” said Patil.

Patil said the departments are expected to submit their views within a week, after which the home department will fine-tune the draft with the help of legal experts and government counsels in the Supreme Court. “I am not sure about the time required for this, but we will issue the ordinance at the earliest,” he said.

He said his department had not taken any decision on granting permission to bar owners who have applied for performance licences.
