The Marine Drive police arrested six Shiv Sena activists after party leader Sweta Parulekar and at least 50 other activists vandalised the office of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) at Veer Nariman road on Monday.

The police registered a case of rioting after the activists staged a protest inside the assistant director’s cabin against the closure of Parshvanath College of Engineering, Thane. The police said they arrested six accused including Pravin Patkar and Amey Ghule (both office bearers in the party) and are trying to trace other accused.

According to the police, party activists assembled unlawfully at the office of AICTE assistant director AK Shukla. They vandalised his office and wrote a letter on the government’s letterhead. They then attempted to force Shukla to sign the letter. When he didn’t budge, they forcefully took his thumb impression on the letter, police said.
