The fifth accused in the gang-rape of a Mumbai photojournalist, Mohamed Salim Ansari was remanded to police custody till September 5 on Monday.

Ansari was arrested from Delhi on Sunday where he was hiding at a relative’s home. The 27-year-old accused was brought back to Mumbai and produced before a Mumbai court on Monday morning.

Ansari is the oldest of all the five accused who raped the photojournalist while she was on a work assignment at the isolated Shakti Mill Compound in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

While seeking the remand of Ansari, the police said he is the fifth accused in the case and all of them need to be questioned together to gather more evidence in the case. After hearing the arguments, the court remanded the accused to police custody for further investigation till September 5.

The police said Ansari was planning to flee the country but was arrested before he could action his plans.
