Hours after actor Preity Zinta posted online the news and a photo of a pedestrian being hit by a speeding ambulance, the Mumbai police were yet to trace the vehicle and the victim or register a case.
Around 4 pm on Sunday, Zinta was on her way to the domestic airport to board a flight for Punjab, where her team, King's XI, was to play against the Pune Warriors.
At Vile Parle East, she noticed a man cross the highway being hit by an ambulance. Zinta immediately called the police. She even wrote a series of posts on the microblogging site Twitter and posted a picture of the vehicle involved, giving its registration number - MHO4-FP1634.
Around 4 pm, Zinta posted, "Called the Cops & informed them. Man is take by some people 2the Hospital as I was busy chasing the Ambulance2 get its licence plate no."
Her next tweet was, "This is the licence plate no. Of this Ambulance . MHO4-FP1634. Did all I could & reported it. Hope that man survives."
But even at the time of going to press, the police were yet to register a case as they had not been able to locate the injured.
Sadanand Date, joint commissioner of police (law and order) said instructions have been issued to trace the vehicle. "But the victim was not found at the spot and no injured person had approached any police station in the neighbouhood," he said.
