The Ulhasnagar police has arrested a former Shiv Sena corporator, Shekhar Yadav, and Sunil Chikne, organiser, MNS transport committee, in connection with the murder of a property dealer named Rajesh Kukreja in a dance bar on Sunday night.
Kukreja was attacked with choppers around 1.30 am, police inspector Siddharath Wagh said. When Kukreja’s accomplice, Suresh Bhagnani, tried to intervene, the assailants attacked him as well.
Kukreja died on the spot while Bhagnani has been admitted to Sion hospital.
The police have arrested Yadav (46), Chikne (42) and a third person, Kishan Kondalkar(36) under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). According to the police, Rajesh Kukreja is the son of a notorious gangster, Shyam Kukreja alias Shyam Jadya.
Yadav, too, has a long criminal history, they said.
