The 27-year-old Spanish musician, who was raped by a burglar at knifepoint in a plush Bandra flat in November last year, is likely to depose before the Mumbai sessions court through video conferencing on Thursday.

The musician was raped by Mohammad Ansari alias Badshah, who also took away her camera and Rs. 40,000 in cash after sneaking into her flat on November 5 last year. The sessions court had earlier this year, framed charges against Ansari.

However, the case hit a roadblock as the survivor returned to her country soon after the incident.

The incident, and several other similar cases – including the gang rape of a photo-journalist earlier this year – had dashed Mumbai’s image as a relatively safe place for women.

Sources revealed that the girl had refused to return to depose before the court. However, the prosecution was in touch with her through the Spanish embassy and trying to convince her to depose before the court. Finally, last month, she agreed to depose through video conferencing.

The survivor was staying as a tenant in a flat on the third floor of a building at the Perry Cross Road in Bandra West when the incident took place.

On November 6, the police nabbed Ansari and booked him for various offences including IPC Sections 452 (house trespass), 392 (robbery), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The police had on December 31 last year filed a chargesheet in the case.
