The rape and murder of a young girl in Shirdi makes it the fourth such crime that Sunil Bharat Jadhav alias Pappu Salve has committed, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said on Sunday.

Nikam had appeared as special public prosecutor at the Nashik sessions court in 2003 for the trial of the case involving the kidnap and murder of a minor girl in which Salve was the accused. The court had sentenced Salve to death, but he was acquitted by Bombay high court in 2010.

“Salve is a dangerous and crooked criminal,” Nikam said. “He is a cold-blooded murderer and for him, now, there should be no alternative penalty but death.”
Nikam said it appears that he uses the same modus operandi in all cases. “He selects a minor girl as victim, kidnaps and rapes her, kills her and dumps the body in some secluded spot to destroy evidence.”

Nikam said he had been disappointed when the high court had acquitted Salve on grounds of lack of evidence.
