Music director Lalit Pandit on Tuesday identified the remains found near a lake at Navi Mumbai as those of his sister Sandhya Singh, 50.

Singh, a resident of NRI colony in Nerul, went missing on December 13, 2012.
She was the sister of music composers Jatin and Lalit and former actors Sulakshana and Vijeta Pandit. She was married to a senior customs officer.
On the day she disappeared, Singh was carrying gold jewellery worth Rs. 20 lakh. One of her friend’s said she had dropped Singh at a bank in Nerul, where she wanted to deposit her jewellery.
A British national, Michael Oates, discovered the remains on Sunday while taking pictures of birds near the lake.
“We have found a skull and bones from the site. There are some documents, clothes and jewellery,” said Suresh Pawar, assistant commissioner of police, crime.
Refusing to comment whether the remains were Singh’s, Pawar said they were waiting for DNA reports.
However, Rajkumar Chaphekar, senior inspector, Nerul police station, confirmed the development.
Lalit said he and his brother identified their sister’s remains. “We knew it was her after seeing her belongings and a cavity in one of her teeth,” he said.
Claiming that his sister had been murdered, Lalit said, “There is no doubt that a heinous crime has been committed. This is murder. Someone has dismembered her body and dumped it,” he said.
