Rs 8 lakh worth jewellery stolen from Malad store

One of the three suspects, who allegedly stole gold jewellery worth Rs. 8l akh from a Malad jewellery store, was arrested on Sunday.

“On Sunday, around 9.45am, Bhagirath Devasi, 19, was arranging the gold ornaments in the showcase when the trio entered the shop,” said inspector Deepak Phatangare of the Malad police station said.

“They attacked him with a knife before fleeing with 12 boxes of gold jewellery,” he added.

Devasi was stabbed on the chest. Locals, who heard Devasi’s screams nabbed Rajesh Nadar, 25, when he was fleeing with his two associates and handed him over to the police.

Devasi works with the Sundram Jewellers located in Velani colony near Orlem Church in Malad (West).

He is also the cousin of the shop owner, Appuram Devasi, 35, the Malad police said.

Devasi shouted for help and the locals with the help of Appuram, who was coming towards the shop, managed to catch hold of one of the three accused and handed him over to the police, Phatangare added. Nadar also lives in the same area.
