A Indian Navy sailor onboard the recently commissioned stealth frigate INS Sahyadri committed suicide by hanging himself using a cable on board the ship on Tuesday.

Raja Chatterjee, 25, used to work with the electrical branch of the ship. On Tuesday, between 9am and 10am, other sailors went looking for Chatterjee so that they could report to the routine parade and physical training scheduled at 10.30am.

When they could not find him, they started looking in the sailors’ cabins. Chatterjee’s body was found hanging in one of the cabins, said Colaba police officials.
Chatterjee had used an electric wire to hang himself. The frigate officials informed the Colaba police station around 10am on Tuesday.

After the police reached the spot, they found an official document related to a loan that Chatterjee had taken, and his mobile phone lying near his body.
No suicide note was found.
