A police complaint was filed against Shiv Sena corporator Rajul Patel, for allegedly assaulting a civic engineer at Jogeshwari on Thursday.

The FIR has been filed in the Oshiwara police station for obstructing a public servant from doing his duty. Patel, who is the civic health committee chairman, assaulted a junior engineer, S Supe, while he was conducting the demolition of an unauthorised construction at Behrambaugh.

Sukhdeo Kashid, representative of civic engineers union, said that Patel asked Supe to stop the demolition.

“When he did not stop, Patel got irritated, slapped him and snatched his mobile from him,” said Kashid.

“I didn’t know  he is a civic official and didn’t assault him,” said Patel. Kashid said the union is planning a protest on Friday against the frequent assault on civic engineers.

Assistant municipal commissioner Ramesh Pawar  was not available for comment.
